The Healing power of Herbal teas – Ceres Esplan

Hawthorn – Crataegus monogyna – May, Maybuds, Hagthorn, Our Lady’s Meat, Cuckoobuds, Bread and cheese tree.

There are so many country names still used to describe this well known little tree, it indicates the affection that country people have for it, as well as givng a few clues about how useful it has been found to be in traditional old remedies.

It is chiefly used as a heart tonic.

Country people when out for a walk still pick the leaf buds while they are tender and young and eat them.  The buds are quite pleasant to chew.
