Stating the obvious

This technique was used by Milton Erickson as part of his hypnotherapy practises.  He repeatedly either stated the very obvious about the person – known facts, or asked them to state a fact and then keep on clarifying or asking for clarification or confirmation of these facts. The extreme of this technique always elicits a 'yes' answer.
