Anesthetic sleep, due to chloroform or ether, can produce the same effects as feverish excitation:
An old forester had lived in his youth on the Polish borders and had spoken only Polish. Subsequently, he had only lived in German districts. His children assured us that, for thirty or forty years, he had not heard or spoken a single word of Polish. During an anaesthesia that lasted almost two hours, this man spoke, prayed, sang, just in Polish.
