Background

A description of the experience

Rosalind Heywood – The Infinite Hive

An idealistic American Minister of Religion, Dr Ralph Harlow, went for a country walk with his wife, and they jointly experienced a vivid visual hallucination of six divinely beautiful female figures. In the light of their religious beliefs they very naturally interpreted this hallucination as 'seeing angels'.

Shortly afterwards Dr Harlow had to attend a Congress on Religious Education, and, although intensely embarrassed, he felt it his duty to tell his fellow clerics about his uplifting experience. But they were not at all uplifted. On the contrary they were extremely shocked, and no one asked him a single question.

At last one of his colleagues broke the dreadful silence. What Dr Harlow had seen, he said, must have been a swarm of bees.
