Ritsos, Yiannis – Selected Poems - Ancient Movement
Type of Spiritual Experience
A description of the experience
From Selected Poems, tr. N. Stangos (1974)
Deep heat all day long. The horses sweat by the. Sunflowers.
A wind starts, coming from the mountain, in the afternoon. A
which is eternal, round, passes through the olive grove. Then
the hundred-year-old woman comes out into her little garden
to her low stool under the mulberry tree near the well,
and with an ancient movement, before sitting down, she dusts
with her long, hieratic wooden arm her black apron.
