Plensa, Jaume – MACBA 25
Identifier

Type of Spiritual Experience
Background
Plensa’s sources of inspiration include literature, especially poetry, music, religion and thought. “ His work addresses the very condition of being: its physical and spiritual essence, ontological awareness of present and past, moral codes and dogmas, and our relationship with nature”. And in this sculpture the message is entirely to do with protecting nature and the tree of life.
It was part of the solo exhibition of Jaume Plensa at MACBA [2018/19] which featured works from the 1980s to the then present, and aimed to provide a broad overview of the work of “one of the Catalan sculptors with the widest international profile”. Twenty-two years after his last museum exhibition in Barcelona (Fundació Joan Miró, 1996), Plensa’s work was seen again in a museum in the city.
