A description of the experience

From Out of body experiences   - David Black

Every three of four blocks was a traffic light and the lights were timed, synchronised with each other so they were all green or all red for about thirty seconds.  But they were fixed so you couldn’t go so fast down the road.  I was bored, waiting for a ride, so I started trying to figure out how many lights I could hold in my mind’s eye at the same time, focusing on all of them so none of them were blurry and so, when they were all one colour, I could actually see that colour all the way down the street.  As I was doing that, I noticed there were reflections of the lights in all the puddles too, and I was having difficulty distinguishing which was the puddle and which was the light.  I began to separate them by being very still and very quiet, not allowing my mind to have any thoughts – which was a very strange feeling.  It got to the point where I was extremely still; and at that point, I don’t remember exactly what happened, but I had the sense that I could be out of my body.

I was no longer aware of the traffic lights, even though I was still looking down the street.  It was very windy, and I remember the sound of the telephone wires kind of buzzing in the wind overhead.  Suddenly, I had this feeling that I was eighty or ninety feet up in the air looking down at my body.  I felt as though I were still inside my head, but I was up in the air and I could look down and see my body below me, shivering in my coat
