Lust
Adapted from a poem by Kim Addonizio
Give me the strongest cheese, all blue and yellow
And the steak, raw red, dripping blood, just seared, primeval tastes
With the strongest mustard – English – chrome yellow fire hot, the sort that fills your nose
And I want the good wine, the swirl in crystal
Surrendering the bruised scent of blackberries
Or cherries, the rich spurt in the back of the throat
Holding it there before swallowing
And I want you, my only dearest lover to jerk open the door
Of my hotel room and press me against the wall
In the half lit hallway and keep me there until I am drenched
And shaking
And throw me on the floor and go and go and go inside me until I cannot walk
I want your kisses to be never ending and begin their delicious journey
Through the cities and small towns of my body until they reach the river of their
journey’s end
To hell with religions with their promises of anext world achieved only through deeds such as duty and chastity and endurance
I want this world
I want to go staggering and flailing my way
Through the bars and the hotel rooms and the forests and the mountains and the fields
Where we will roll together in the grass or under the trees or across the white sheets
I want to walk along the high streets of the cities of the world
with your hand everywhere on my body
I want it when people are there, when people are not there
I want to lie down somewhere and suffer for love
Until it nearly kills me
And then I want to get up again, shaking from the emotion
And put on my clothes and wait for you, yes you, yes you
To come over here and get down on your knees
And with your hand between my legs
Tell me just how much you want me
