Houdini - Being buried alive
Type of Spiritual Experience
A description of the experience
Hungarian-American magician and escapologist Harry Houdini performed a variation on the fakir trick of being "Buried Alive".
His objective was simply to show it could be done and to expose a mystical Egyptian performer who claimed to use supernatural powers to remain in a sealed casket for an hour.
Houdini - using controlled breathing to adjust his metabolism - remained in a sealed casket submerged in the swimming pool of New York's Hotel Shelton for an hour and a half.
