An Interview with Harry Houdini by Marcet Haldeman-Julius
‘Yet’ he insisted, those strange clear large pupiled eyes of his holding our attention, ‘I do not say that inter-communication between the living and the dead is impossible. I say merely that it never has occurred under test conditions [in my presence] – that so far when investigated all claims to supernatural power have proved to be unfounded. But I do not say and I do not know that it can never occur. Each time I help to investigate a medium I hope she may be all that she pretends to be. What wouldn’t I give to be able to talk to my mother.’…………
Houdini himself, shrewd clear headed, refusing to accept any substitutes for truth is I submit, of the very stuff of which agnostics are fashioned. But I do not presume to doubt his statement that he believes both in God and the Hereafter.
