Beyond Biofeedback – Drs Elmer and Alyce Green

Quite early in the training there were reports of increased dreaming (or, rather, increased awareness and recall of dreams) and of imagery of past events occurring during practice sessions, some of them recalling forgotten events of childhood.

They were not like going through a memory in one's mind but rather like an experience, a reliving. For example, this from a transcribed report:

"Last Friday I got into something different during my practice, a kind of detachment. I began first sort of thinking of a bicycle I wanted to buy. And then I thought of a bicycle I had when I was a kid. And then zap, I was back in my childhood, into a whole set of childhood feelings connected with sounds, with smells, how the gate sounded, all kinds of things. The smell of the back yard. The whole neighborhood. It must have lasted fifteen to twenty minutes, and I don't even know if I was getting feedback or not. It was strange, I was just totally lost for a while in that experience. Really absorbed, really startled by its clarity. It wasn't like, you know, you can remember about how the back yard looked, or you can think it looked like this, but when you start getting the smells and the sounds, that's different."
