Observations placeholder

Gage, Phineas

Identifier

001667

Type of Spiritual Experience

None

Background

There is, as far as I am aware having read the account of his life, no record of Phineas Gage having had a spiritual experience.

Why then, you may ask, are you providing this link to him?

I want to show that there is very clearly a link between damage to specific parts of the brain and spiritual experience and that if these parts are not damaged then, however horrific the injuries - and they were extremely horrific in Phineas's case - no experience will result.

Thus one has to correlate the brain damage done with the function that part of the brain supports to see whether a spiritual experience may result.

It might be interesting to compare Mr Gage with Shostakovich.

A description of the experience

no experience.  The observation is to enable a link to be made between Gage and brain injury

The source of the experience

Gage, Phineas
