Korean Shamanism – Muism – Dr Kim Tae-kon
When people die they go into hell or paradise; where people go depends on whether their deeds during their life on earth were good or bad.
In the-world-above-the-sky are gods (Ch'onshin, the creator god: Ilshin, a sun god; Wolshin, the moon god; Songshin, the stars Bod; and their servants, Shijongshin, who are gods who are servants to the other gods] who rule over everything in the universe. This is a paradise humans always dream of where there is abundant food and clothes, and without diseases and death; a supernatural world like a flower garden. This paradise is a world where one can live a happy life eternally.
In the-world-on-the-surface-of-the-earth, humans, birds, beasts, and nature gods (including such gods as a mountain god) live.
In the world-below-the-earth, dwell death messengers and myongbu (hell) gods, who command the death messengers. The location of Hell is specified as a dark world below the earth, where coldness, hunger and punishment last eternally.
