Background
A description of the experience
from The 17th Frederic W H Myers memorial lecture 1968 by Sir Cyril Burt
..... it is not the eye that sees or the ear that hears, but the mind, and it is the mind that elaborates the thoughts that are communicated.
So long as the mind lodges in a physical body, it needs sense organs to direct its attention to urgent events in the immediate environment.
But to suppose that a disembodied mind would require sense organs is like supposng that, since a prisoner confined in his cell cannot see the sky unless there is a window, therefore after he is released into the open air he will still require a window to see the landscape and the clouds.
