Four members of the Royal Observer Corps saw something floating over a stone circle site at Ilkley Moor. Paul Bennett climbed the moor to visit the spot after talking to witnesses and claimed to get a mild electric shock when touching one of the standing stones.
Moving on a year, a similar outbreak occurred around Menwith hill to the north of Ilkley. Here the spectacular lights over a few days around the 28th July included glows beside transmission towers on hill tops – notably a blood red one that flooded light over the countryside.
