Background

In some Belgian tarots and the 17th century tarot of Jacques Viéville, the card is called La Foudre or La Fouldre, ("The Lightning") and depicts a tree being struck by lightning.

This is a wonderful interpretation of the overall symbolism, linking it to the Garden of Eden and the Tree of Knowledge.

In effect by gaining knowledge - belief systems  - we lose wisdom and contact with the spiritual world.
