Bees – Lectures by Rudolf Steiner
December 12th 1923
As it turns out, the bee is a creature more directly influenced by the Sun than other animals; it is a "Sun" creature.
The Sun needs about as much time to rotate on its axis as a drone needs to mature.
The queen, in its development toward maturity, does not wait for even one complete rotation of the Sun, which means that it stays completely within the realm of a single rotation. By doing so, the queen places itself entirely under the influence of the Sun, which then allows it to become an egg-producing bee. Everything that is connected with the capability to lay eggs is under the influence of the Sun, also in respect to the entire cosmos.
