XII 1 Hymn to goddess Earth Part 10
This Earth, the home of the serpent, the scorpion with thirsty fangs;
the worm, and all living things, that move in the rainy season,
O Earth, with what is auspicious
be gracious to us
This Earth, thy many paths upon which people go,
thy tracks for chariots and wagons to advance,
upon which both good and evil men proceed,
make this road free from enemies, and free from thieves,
O Earth: with what is auspicious
be gracious to us
This Earth, that holds the fool and holds the wise,
endures the good and bad that dwell upon her;
she keeps company with the boar,
gives herself up to the wild hog.
O Earth: with what is auspicious
be gracious to us
Thy forest animals, the wild animals homed in the woods,
the man-eating lions, and tigers that roam;
the wolf, mishap, injury and demons
drive away from us
O Earth: with what is auspicious
be gracious to us
