Type of Spiritual Experience
Background
If the communication is in words and sentences it is a bodied or disembodied soul. If the communication is symbolic, or uses words as puns, or is simply a ‘thought’ without words – an impression conveyed, communication is with a Spirit being , Spirit helper or Intelligence
A description of the experience
Communication largely follows the levels in the spiritual hierarchy. In other words, the hierarchy of Intelligence to a large extent determines how communication is achieved from higher levels of Intelligence through progressively lower levels until it gets to us. Although if the soul is bright and well informed enough, communication may be between Intelligences and souls.
Shaikh Ahmad Ahsa’i – Kitab Sharh al-Ziyara [translated by Henry Corbin and Nancy Pearson]
The Angels are not perceptible to anyone in the world of material bodies, unless the Angel takes on the appearance of a material body. As when the Angel Gabriel takes on the aspect of the adolescent Dahya Kalbi in order to appear to the prophet, or again, when he comes down to Abraham accompanied by Kerubiel and Michael on the occasion of the philoxena, or again, to Lot, in order to chastise his people. For every soul is in direct contact with those beings and those realities of the intermediate world that correspond to its own spiritual state
