Aboriginal men of high degree – A P Elkin

South of Yuendumu also, a (Kukatja) doctor-man from Haasts Bluff, near Papunya, who has a hole pierced in his tongue, inherited three spirit familiars from his father.

He received them while lying all day "naked in the sun" when also his soul left his body and "went on a journey." Particulars of the journey have not been recorded, but doctor-men at Jigalong, far west across the Gibson Desert, make dream spirit journeys to keep in touch with their patrilineal ancestors who now live under Lake Disappointment
