"Once a very beautiful young woman visited my hotel room. She had white hair down to her shoulders and sky-blue eyes. She was thin and tall and wore a red dress with a knee-length hemline in a style that was very fashionable at the time. But listen closely; the rest will be in stark, unvarnished prose.

Because of my fame and because I was a bachelor with all the attendant weaknesses, I always stayed in a first-class hotel on tour.  This time my luxurious room was totally isolated from Mr. Kobak's room.  I took one glance at the woman and understood everything immediately.

'Sit down, madam,' I said politely 'Make yourself at home. Such charming guests rarely visit the abodes of touring performers. I am extremely glad that you came. Have a seat, and excuse me for one moment while I order some refreshments.'

Closing the door behind me, I took off like a shot to Kobak’s room.

'Run to the police this second,' I blurted out,' and come back right away. Bring several men and come back. Don’t burst into my room, but spy through the glass over the door. Fast!'

"I returned to my room and again began to shower compliments upon this beautiful woman. If only I could stall for time, I thought, just for ten minutes! Her dirty plan was as clear as day to me. My guest got down to business.

'You perform such miracles. Amazing things. But do you know what I'm thinking right now?'

'Forgive me, madam, but offstage I'm just an ordinary man. I'm absolutely certain that in such a charming little head there could only be charming thoughts.'

'Who can tell? But I want to be your lover, right now this instant!' she exclaimed and proceeded to rip off her clothing. She rushed to the window and shouted with all her might: 'Help! Rape!'

I gave a signal that the show was over, the door flung open, and the police entered the room and arrested the woman.

Obviously, I had been set up by some jealous rivals who wanted to ruin my reputation.
