Wolf Messing – the true story of Russia’s greatest psychic – Tatiana Lungin
[By the mid 1920s, Messing had a new manager] my new manager, Mr. Kobak, was a person totally different from Zellmeister in style. Mr. Kobak was a handsome man, who usually wore vividly coloured suits and bright shirts highlighted by bow ties. He was always gentle and smiling. He was full of energy but didn’t trouble himself running about booking tours. Instead, he handled the major portion of our negotiations over the phone in a thoroughly business-like fashion. He was successful, too. Once more I began to travel through Europe, visiting new and exciting cities: Paris, London, Rome, Stockholm, Geneva, Riga.
On this tour I tried to widen my repertoire. I was just as capable of getting bored with a set routine as anyone else. In Riga, for example, I drove an automobile through the streets while blindfolded by a large black scarf, I had no experience in driving. My hands held the steering wheel, and my feet worked the pedals, while a professional chauffeur seated beside me gave me mental instructions.
He telepathically instructed me to turn, stop, move backwards, and so forth. Many thousands of people, who formed a solid wall along the sidewalks and roads, witnessed this experiment. They looked as if they were awaiting the arrival of a king or prime minister. This trick was performed as a publicity stunt. Since that time I have never sat behind the wheel of a car.
