Non-epileptic seizures are paroxysmal events that mimic an epileptic seizure but do not involve abnormal, rhythmic discharges of cortical neurons. Reflex anoxic seizures are a specific form of this type of seizure.
Amie had reflex anoxic seizure or reflex cardiac standstill in which her heart slowed down and used to actually stop for a short time.
In her specific case, it occurred because an over active nerve – the vagus nerve – made the heart slow down, but it very quickly started to beat again. Nevertheless Amie was often unconscious for over a minute and had no heartbeat and did not breathe. The following observation comes from her mother

Amie tells me about when she ‘goes’ as she calls it, and how she floats out to the ceiling and watches her body and us. She has told me exactly what has happened and what I did, said etc whilst she was ‘gone’ on many occasions. She tells me that she clicks back into the body.
She is 100 per cent right in everything that has happened. Amie is very honest and there is no way a child of her age could make up such things. Amie has never been told about OBEs or NDEs, but she has such incredible detail that I am totally convinced.
Amie has described seeing a very bright light ‘like the sun’. She says that although the light is warm and nice and she has touched it, she knows she mustn’t go into it, she must go back to mummy.
She even tells me how it feels when she goes back into her body ‘head first – it’s not very nice’
