Background

A description of the experience

Colin Wilson - Mysteries

When Dr Julian Jaynes was wrestling with the ideas that led him to write the book 'The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind, he lay down on a couch in a state of
intellectual despair and heard a loud, distinct voice say from above his head

'lnclude the knower in the known.'

He leapt to his feet and looked around the room, convinced there was someone there, until it gradually dawned on him that it was an auditory hallucination, caused by stress.
