Type of Spiritual Experience

Background

The following quote emphasises what a large part ancestral roots and family ties play in our psyche .  The passage is about the often odd link that seems to occur between the real house of a family and their family history.  It is as if the physical world somehow mirrors the symbolic spiritual world………..

A description of the experience

John Custance – Adventure into the Unconscious

In the chapter of Homo Viator headed 'The Mystery of the Family', M. Gabriel Marcel writes that 'it is certainly not by chance if all the forces which have been working towards the destruction of the family house have at the same time been preparing for the overthrow of the family itself.'  He wants no other proof, he goes on, than that afforded by 'the mental upheaval and often the heartbreak, so frequently brought upon a child by the common enough event of a house move'.

The source of the experience

Custance, John
