A description of the experience

Love is the Link – Dr Pamela Kircher

An …. experience occurred to a young woman during a cardiac arrest that occurred during surgery. As she watched her resuscitation from the corner of the operating room, she was amazed to see a teenaged girl, dressed in old-fashioned clothes, in the other corner of the room; the girl was dressed in a gingham dress with a straw bonnet over red hair, quietly watching the resuscitation. The patient was puzzled by the presence of that young girl in the operating room, but didn't think too much about it until several months later when visiting her grandmother's house.

On a whim, they decided to clean out the attic. As she went through an old chest, she happened upon a photo of just that same figure. She had never been in the attic before and felt certain that she had never seen that picture before.

When she asked her grandmother about the girl in the photo, she was told that it was a photo of her own mother at the age of eighteen. Her mother had died when this young woman was still an infant, and she had no conscious recollection of what her mother had looked like. Suddenly, the operating room experience made a whole lot more sense to her. As she told the story, I had a sense that her mother had been silently watching over her to be her guide in case the resuscitative attempt was not successful.
