None of the accounts describe the dying person's eyes wandering randomly around the room. Always they seem to be looking at some specific point and their attention is absolutely fixed upon it. The following accounts are typical of the many we received.
I looked up and saw that my mother's eyes were wide open. My first thoughts were that she had woken up and I dashed, to the side of the bed. She was staring straight ahead, to a point roughly where the wall met the ceiling. I bent down over her so that her stare would meet my eyes, but she looked straight ahead. I just said,
'Who are you looking at Mother?', not really expecting an answer.
It dawned on me that she was looking at someone who had come to meet her.
