Symbols - What does heaven look like

Lilith

Lilith mythology goes back to ancient times, however, it comes to prominence in Jewish folklore, from the 8th–10th centuries.

In the  Alphabet of Ben Sira onwards, Lilith becomes Adam's first wife, who was created at the same time and from the same energy as Adam.

This contrasts with Eve, who was created from one of Adam's ribs.

The legend was greatly developed during the Middle Ages, in the tradition of Aggadic midrashim, the Zohar and Jewish mysticism.

It is used in astrology, psychotherapy and in many modern stories.

Symbolically, Lilith represents our Subconscious, the functions of the human being that came first – the sex drive, the emotions, the perceptions, the feminine principle [Brain split – left brain right brain].

Eve, interestingly enough represents the Conscious self – the bit that was added on later which gained reason and knowledge, learning capability and intellect.

Eve took from the Tree of Knowledge and thus gained the functions related to the Intellect.  The analogy rather comes a cropper because Eve is symbolically equal to the male principle, but in the story of the Garden of Eden, this is why she was made from the rib of Adam, she is actually a part of the man – the male principle.

So the story of the Garden of Eden is actually about the creation of the male principle  not the female principle.  Lilith is the female principle.

The Higher spirit is then Adam, happy in the spirit world and with no earthly existence.  But he ‘falls’ allegorically – goes down the vibrational levels [see Levels and layers] and thus becomes human, whereas he had been just Spirit and without any form of bad processes – an innocent without a sex drive or cunning, who knew no pain.  By acquiring both a Lilith and an Eve side to him, he became tied to the physical – the Earth level.  Hence his name Adamus – of the Earth – a spirit who became earthly.
