Introduction and description

Decachaeta is a genus of plants belonging to the Asteraceae family. It comprises 11 species described and of these, only 8 accepted.  It is native to Mexico.

Plants of this genus have a single disc (without floral rays) and the petals are white, slightly yellowish white, pink or purple (never a complete yellow color) .

The genus was described by Augustin Pyrame de Candolle and published in Prodromus Systematis Naturalis Regni Vegetabilis 5: 133. 1836.  The type species is: Decachaeta haenkeana DC.

Medicinally there have been studies indicating the plant has anti-parasitic properties – see the observations.
