The Scientific and Medical Network

Category: Website

The Scientific and Medical Network is a worldwide professional community for ‘open-minded, rigorous and evidence-based enquiry’ into themes bridging science, spirituality and consciousness and shifting beyond the limits of an exclusively materialist and reductionist understanding of reality and human experience.

The Network brings together open-minded and discerning people who are inclined to a non-materialist interpretation of the universe and who have a sympathetic interest in para-psychological and spiritual matters. The Network is a critical but supportive group whereby everyone’s efforts towards developing an open but disciplined mind may be refined.

Their conferences, seminars and special interest groups are intended to provide a safe haven in which frontier issues and ideas at the interface between science, spirituality and consciousness can be freely explored and tested against the evidence, furthering personal growth and inner development.

The Network is committed to advancing human perceptive abilities and understanding, encouraging science and medicine to adopt more sensitive and comprehensive approaches to human problems by embracing intuitive and spiritual insights. It promotes a greater acceptance by science and medicine of man’s spiritual essence, as consistent with science. As such the Network challenges the validity of an exclusively materialistic approach as an adequate basis of knowledge and values.

The Network believes that a widening of experience and awareness leads to a corresponding widening of our framework for understanding reality.

This is a cultural shift. In this context, a culture is defined as ‘minds in cooperation through similarly constructed realities.’ This can be achieved by deep sharing through creative listening and communication through silence leading to a fellowship based on mutual trust and respect. Growing knowledge and understanding can be attained by a more profound exploration and disciplined examination of key questions.

The Network recognises the complementary roles of scientific, artistic and mystical ways of knowing and seeks to balance intuition and logical analysis, heart and head, emotion and reason, inner and outer space, subjective and objective, contemplation and action, the experiential with the intellectual. We encourage the integration of left hemisphere rationality with right hemisphere intuition.

The existence of the Network lets it be widely known that there is a significant minority, possibly even a majority, amongst professional people who wish to take fully into account the existence of a fundamental spiritual reality and the implications of the spiritual capabilities that we all possess. The Network is part of the contemporary quest for a more spiritual mode of thinking and being that is compatible with science.

Mission

We live in a polarised world where extreme views are pitted against each other and compromise is shunned as weak.

We believe that a better, more intelligent and more heart-led world is possible – one in which the wisdom of spirituality and the thoughtfulness of philosophy balances the power of science and technology and wholeness is found in the careful reconciliation of opposites.

The SMN believes that by following reason, love and wisdom and by avoiding dogma, the false certainties of extreme religion and atheist science, a new world is possible.

We invite you to join us in helping co-create that world and heal our fractured culture.
