Emile Desbeaux, born September 5, 1845 in Paris and died August 7, 1903 in the same city, was a playwright and director of French theater.
He directed the theater of the Odeon Theatre in Paris. He contributed to the newspapers and journals Le Sifflet and Le Monde illustré.
He was a Knight of the Legion of Honour and an Officer of the French Order of Academic Palms

The National Theater of the Odeon, named since March 1990 Odeon-Theater of Europe, is a Parisian public theatre located in the Place de l'Odeon (6th arrondissement), inaugurated in 1782 to host the troupe ‘Théâtre-Français’. The Odeon has been, since September 1971, one of the six national theatres. Architecturally, it is an Italian-style theatre (cubic-shaped stage with a semicircular hall) and the exterior is neoclassical. It was classified as a historical monument in October 7, 1973.

He is on the site because of the experiments he undertook with Léon Hennique, in thought transference. Léon Hennique was born in Basse-Terre (Guadeloupe) on November 4, 1850 and died in Paris on December 25, 1935. He was a ‘naturalist novelist’ and French playwright. He is buried in Ribemont. Executor and co-owner with Alphonse Daudet of Edmond de Goncourt, he was actively involved in founding the Academy Goncourt, and assumed its presidency from 1907 to 1912. He was the father of the symbolist poet Nicolette Hennique.
