Overload

Menopause

Category: Illness or disabilities

Type

Involuntary

Introduction and description

Menopause refers to the time of cessation of a woman's reproductive ability. It is not strictly speaking an illness but an event, however, the side-effects are often so dire both physically and emotionally that you can feel 'ill'.

Menopause literally means the "end of monthly cycles", as such it means the end of monthly periods or menstruation and comes from the Greek word pausis (cessation) and the root men- (month). In theory it occurs to women in their late 40s and early 50s, however, it can occur both early and late and is often affected by things such as whether you are on the pill or not. If you have been on the pill [or equivalent] for most of your life, coming off can precipitate you into the menopause with a vengeance.

The transition from a potentially reproductive to a non-reproductive state is the result of changes in female hormonal production by the ovaries. As long as the transition is very gradual – and for some women it is – spreading over a number of years, the symptoms and effects can be very minor or almost unnoticeable. But if the change is abrupt – as it is if you stop the pill - the symptoms can be extreme. The resulting hormone surges are overload in every sense of the word.

Hormones are 'drugs' and overdose of the hormones of reproduction have much the same effect on a woman's health as any overdose of drugs. It can cause headaches, arrhythmias, inflammation and hardening of the arteries leading to heart problems. It can disrupt your temperature balance leading to sudden attacks of extreme cold followed by appalling periods of flushing and heat where you perspire profusely.

And this disruption and the extreme emotion which often accompanies the process can produce spiritual experiences.

Symptoms

The age at which the menopause occurs appears to be related to the life expectancy of the woman. It is as if nature plans it so that women get at least some years free of having to look after children and can instead be the 'wise women' of their community.

The typical age range for menopause (last period) in so called developed nations is between the ages of 40 and 61 and the average age for last period is 51 years. But in India, where the life expectancy is lower, the median age of natural menopause is 44 years. In rare cases, a woman's ovaries stop working at a very early age, ranging anywhere from the age of puberty to age 40. The life expectancy hypothesis seems to be borne out by some contemporary studies that have found links to 'lifestyle factors' that may promote an earlier onset, such as obesity, smoking cigarettes, and exposure to toxins.

Fluctuating Cycle times - The first evidence of the onset of the menopause is usually the appearance of slight variations in the length of the menstrual cycle. These variations become more pronounced over time, and eventually lead to cycles that can be much longer or shorter than usual.

Bleeding variation - flow that can be much lighter or heavier than usual, skipped ovulations, skipped periods, and spans of time of many months with no flow at all, after which menstruation may resume. The transition is considered to be finished once a woman has experienced 12 months without any menstrual bleeding at all. Absence of bleeding causes few problems, but very very heavy bleeding is not unknown and can cause iron imbalance and other mineral imbalances.

Hormone fluctuations -  oestrogen - One hormone which fluctuates wildly during this time is oestrogen. Oestrogen levels average about 20-30% higher than during premenopause, often with wide fluctuations - peaks and troughs. These fluctuations cause many of the physical changes mentioned in the introduction - hot flushes and night sweats. Other problems can be insomnia, mood changes, memory problems, exhaustion, the urgent need to wee suddenly, heart disease and osteoporosis.

The "hot flash" or "hot flush" occurs as the body temperature soars upward, reaching a peak very rapidly “causing the sufferer to feel weak and break out in heavy sweating. Despite the discomfort, hot flashes are not considered harmful by physicians” - now isn't that comforting?

There is some speculation [and it is only speculation] that these rises in temperature are not dissimilar to those one gets when you get a virus, the immune system treats high doses of oestrogen in much the same way as a virus and attempts to boil it out of existence! [small exagerration here].

Lust - Very high levels of Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) are typical of post-menopausal women.

Before menopause, the ovaries produce estradiol, testosterone and progesterone in a cyclical pattern under the control of FSH and luteinising hormone (LH) which are both produced by the pituitary gland. However, the menopause transition is characterized by “marked, and often dramatic, variations in FSH and estradiol levels”. What the medical texts books don't tell you because they have been written by men, is that this can make you uncontrollably sex mad. A menopausal woman can become insatiable and I do not joke. All those women whose menopause is long drawn out and gentle have none of this, but for those undergoing the violent change, they can become completely uncontrollable, embarrassing themselves and anyone they attack on the 2.30 bus from Clapham common.

It is almost as if some of the reproductive hormones of women are natural brakes to protect her against too many unwanted pregnancies or pregnancies too close together. Once there is no more risk of pregnancy, the brakes come off in one last delicious and appalling surge.

Given that after menopause, estrogen continues to be produced in other tissues, [notably the ovaries, bone, blood vessels and brain], oestrogen is not the brake.  But there is a dramatic fall in circulating estradiol levels at menopause, indicating the brakes appear to be estradiol. This suspicion is supported by the fact that the levels of testosterone, as well as dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) and androstenedione appear to decline more or less steadily with age – so they are not to blame.

Treatment

There appear to be three main ways in which the symptoms of the menopause can be helped

Pharmaceuticals

Doctors will prescribe HRT, antidepressants, anti-psychotics, and sleeping tablets.  This is a symptom based approach.  The links show the effects spiritually.

Healers

The healing community advocate foods - Eating for health - and I have provided some observations that describe these options.  There are other options all described in the section Healing yourself.  This is a cause based approach aimed at balancing the fluctuations.

The 'take advantage of it while you can' approach

Unusual yes, for the brave yes, not without its risks yes, but this is the overload section, so here we go.  The following steps are only recommended for those undergoing violent change:

1.  Find yourself a man who is as insatiable as you are naturally, fit, no heart problems, sexy, willing and up for a bit of fun

2.  Together indulge in Sexy eating

3.  Together indulge in Being naked in the sun

4.  Buy yourself some unbelievably provocative underwear

5.  Find yourselves a hotel or place of luxury and relaxation where you can forget all obligations, and threats for several days

6.  Now Make love for as long as it takes to give you something special - and the records show something special is possible spiritually

More information

We have provided some observations which provide other more proven cures.

For more details of both causes and more cures see Estrogen imbalance.

How it works

On the negative side - Although the numerous side effects that the menopause produces all have an effect, the principal cause of the majority of non healing spiritual experiences, is simply the Extreme emotion it produces.  The additional causes which simply exacerbate the situation include - the extreme loss of bloodiron imbalance,  the sleep deprivation, insomnia and mental exhaustion, the suppression of memory [a big contributor to experience], the heart failure, fever,............

The wife was counting all the 5p's and 10p's out on the kitchen table when she suddenly
got very angry and started shouting and crying for no reason.
I thought to myself , "She's going through the change."

On the positive side - If you choose to use my method as a treatment, you will also be employing

All of which are remarkably effective.
