According to the eHealthme web site over 120 drugs are prescribed for migraine, a list of them can be found by following this LINK.

Amongst this list are drugs that are found elsewhere on this website and intended for use with other illnesses, for example: 

 

 

If you look at the description for migraine you should be able to see that none of these actually address the causes of migraine. The only class of drug that exists with the specific aim of treating migraines are called Triptans and Triptans have caused hallucinations.

Background

 

Triptans are a family of tryptamine-based drugs used specifically in the treatment of migraines and cluster headaches. They were first introduced in the 1990s.
“While effective at treating individual headaches, they do not provide preventative treatment and are not considered a cure”.

Their action is “attributed to their agonist effects on serotonin 5-HT1B and 5-HT1D receptors in cranial blood vessels causing their constriction”. So in effect they are vasoconstrictors and prevent blood from getting to the brain. Since some migraine attacks result in over dilation of blood vessels in the brain, then the somewhat simplistic theory is that any medication that constricts the vessels will relieve the pressure. As you should be able to see, however, the potential for things going wrong is very high, as the cause may not be over dilation it may be toxins, viruses, mineral deficiency and imbalance, vitamin deficiency or imbalance or other problems.

As such if you use these drugs the overall effect will be hypoxia which is why there are hallucinations. If you have a poorly heart, it may be a lot worse as is shown by the side effects of many of these drugs which list heart attacks, palpitations and cardiac arrest.

Side effects

 

Many of these drugs work via serotonin and its ability to produce vasoconstriction. 

Unfortunately serotonin has other functions and the disruption to these functions is apparent in the sorts of side effects experienced. 

If we take an example drug such as Amerge, then the side effects as stated on eHealthme and derived from ADRs are as follows:

Pyrexia is another word for fever.  Arthralgia is joint pain.  Compare the results with another drug, Maxalt, and you will be able to see that the side-effects are not dissimilar.  All these symptoms are indicators of serotonin imbalance.

If we now look at the ultimate spiritual experience - death - then we also see that these drugs have caused deaths.  The deaths again seemed to be attributable to the vasoconstriction, which appears to be acting somewhat indiscriminately

Axert - On Jul, 22, 2015: 414 people reported to have side effects when taking Axert. Among them, 8 people (1.93%) have Death

Maxalt - On Jul, 11, 2015: 3,614 people reported to have side effects when taking Maxalt. Among them, 31 people (0.86%) have Death

Relpax - On Jul, 18, 2015: 2,842 people reported to have side effects when taking Relpax. Among them, 13 people (0.46%) have Death

Sumatripan - On Jul, 25, 2015: 3,340 people reported to have side effects when taking Sumatriptan. Among them, 26 people (0.78%) have Death 

Imitrex - On Aug, 5, 2015: 5,201 people reported to have side effects when taking Imitrex. Among them, 29 people (0.56%) have Death

Treximet - On Jul, 20, 2015: 879 people reported to have side effects when taking Treximet. Among them, 4 people (0.46%) have Death

Zomig - On Aug, 9, 2015: 3,675 people reported to have side effects when taking Zomig. Among them, 15 people (0.41%) have Death

Eletriptan- On Aug, 9, 2015: 48 people reported to have side effects when taking Eletriptan hydrobromide. Among them, 1 people (2.08%) has Death

Rizatriptan - On Aug, 9, 2015: 237 people reported to have side effects when taking Rizatriptan benzoate. Among them, 3 people (1.27%) have Death
