Type of Spiritual Experience

Background

The disadvantage with the lone tower, your own tower, is that of course it contains only your ideas.  If you lack inspiration, there is no point in going to your own tower for it, unless of course there are ideas you have forgotten.  The individual's tower is more  a place to store your own good ideas and the place to go to retrieve them, rather than a place to get inspiration, when you've run out of ideas.

A description of the experience

W B Yeats – from Selected Poetry
from Blood and the Moon

Blessed be this place
More blessed still this tower;…......

In mockery I have set
A powerful emblem up
And sing it rhyme upon rhyme
In mockery of a time
Half dead at the top.............

...Shelley had his tower, thought's crowned powers he called them once
I declare this tower is my symbol;  I declare
This winding, gyring, spiring treadmill of a stair is my ancestral stair;
That Goldsmith and the Dean, Berkeley and Burke have travelled there

The source of the experience

Yeats, W B
