Type of Spiritual Experience
Background
This could have been a vision and a lesson, but it was experienced at a time when he seemed to be getting a lot of perception recall experiences and he derived no lesson from this, as such it rather points to it being perception recall - a loving comforting moment that through the emotion it had generatd had stayed vivid in his perceptions
A description of the experience
The Mystical Life – J H M Whiteman
(August 1932)….. I found myself standing upright, at night time, on the outskirts of a dark wood.
My attention was held by the sight of human figures running quickly through the wood, about thirty yards away distinctly visible, although there did not seem to be any light from moon or stars. An inner tranquillity of mind kept my power of reflection steadily objective while I contemplated the scene and wondered about its meaning.
Suddenly one of the figures came quickly up, and in a moment was before me, face to face. ….my eyes looked steadily and wonderingly into those of that other being, ….-Upon the instant of meeting, my hands joined spontaneously with the hands of that being, in an expression of sympathetic and selfless union. For perhaps fifteen seconds or more our two minds were held in community of feeling and silent understanding, each as it were exploring the other by a selfless response.
At last, as that unity began to dissolve, there came a visible effect as of water currents flowing between. The outlines of the face into which I gazed shifted and became distorted, and light yielded to darkness.
