A description of the experience
Stuck designed the whole villa including its interior, the opulent main building in 1897-98 and the more functional studio building in 1913-14. The unusual blend of Neoclassicism and Art Nouveau seemed just as revolutionary at the time as the spear wielding Amazon at the entrance.
Inside the reception and living rooms shimmer with gold mosaics and wall paintings a la Pompei, coffered ceilings and polychrome panelling, marble framed reliefs and friezes in the classical manner, copies of famous Greek, Roman and Renaissance sculptures and, of course, the artists's own paintings, including a version of The Sin, whose sultry eroticism distracted an entire generation.
