A description of the experience
Poems of Tulsidas - translated by Professor John Stratton Hawley
This darkest of ages has destroyed
the lines of caste, the stages of life:
AII that is proper has been tossed aside
like a bundle thrown to the ground.
Siva is angry:
his anger is seen in the plague.
The Master is angry:
daily poverty doubles.
They cry out, destitute men
and women. No one hears.
Who are the gods who conspired to strike us
with this thick, black-magic curse?
And then merciful Ram, remembered
as protector of the terrified by Tulsi,
Praised for his fine compassion,
-he waved it all away.
