The Truth in the Light – Dr Peter Fenwick and Elizabeth Fenwick
This Mrs M Giles’ account of how, as a child of 7, she was admitted to hospital with third degree burns
Feeling quite poorly, I seemed to lose my fight for life. I was not aware of leaving my body, except for a sort of ‘ping’. That is the only way I can describe it. Then I was at ceiling level, looking down on my body. I have not read of anyone talking about the warmth which enveloped me at that stage. I was not frightened and felt most loved and pure. Everything was bright all around, and although I saw no one it seemed as if I was known and welcome in that bright place.
As I looked down my mother was waiting to visit me and she was on the other side of the door to the ward entrance. I wanted to stay where I was but Mother was crying and then I was back in my body and so was the pain
I have a saying which is this; until you have been to heaven and back you’ve not been ‘humanised’ . When you talk to people who have had this experience they have a certain quality about them. No, I’m not being bigheaded, just observant. And like me, they are not afraid of death.
