Background
The NDE person may be given a life review which is a run through of their past perceptions. Whether they get this or not depends a lot on whether the review is of help to them at that stage of their life. Occasionally a review helps the person see what the next steps in life need to be. Children hardly ever have reviews, not because their lives are too short, but because they are children still and don't need guidance on what to do next.
The review, is intended to help the person see their destiny - what they are here for - and help them make a decision. It is not intended to be in any way judgemental. Thus they may see a rapid review of the whole of their life, or a partial review covering only the pertinent points. The images are usually very vivid because they are obtained from the person's perceptions.
I think we need to be wary of applying any assessment of the way near death is handled with the way death might be handled. If we use an analogy, a project manager may seek to review the work done so far by a project member putting a positive motivational slant on the good work done, with directions on what to do next. But at the end of the project when the person's next project and next assignment is being considered, a real review takes place.... as one NDEr said
A description of the experience
Life at Death – Dr Kenneth Ring
I really believe that death is just part of a continuous cycle. I think when you are born, consciousness is enveloped within a body. And you grow and you develop and you learn. And I believe that you try to attain – whether you are aware of it or not – you develop a greater awareness of higher consciousness. I feel that with each death, it's like taking off an old coat and putting on another one to grow further and further in consciousness until you become one with God, or with Creation or with whatever it is – whatever this great thing is.
