A description of the experience
The Art of Dying – Drs Peter and Elizabeth Fenwick
This is what Jean saw one evening in 1966, the night her father died. Her sister relates the story
Our father was very ill in hospital following a heart attack for several days leading up to this event. Jean [his daughter] was at home knitting when she suddenly felt a presence in the room, so she stopped knitting and looked up to see what she described as a large ball of smoke The ball looked like a cloud and was raised up off the floor by approximately two feet. This cloud came from across the room towards her and stopped in front of her. She turned around and looked at the clock, it was exactly 11 p.m. Jean turned back, and as she did she felt that the cloud was waiting for her, as if the time was of importance, and then it carried on across the room and disappeared. Later that night a relative visited Jean to inform her that our father had died at 11 p.m., which was the time she had seen this cloud glide across the room.
Of all five children, our father was the harshest on Jean, who was very good to him during his lifetime; she has often wondered if he came to say goodbye. I wondered if it was remorse for the way he had treated her, and at the end he realized how wrong he had been and had visited her out of conscience and remorse.
