It does not please the gods that man should obtain knowledge and free himself from the illusion of the world of appearances. Everything has been foreseen to lead him astray. It is for this reason that the path of knowledge is crooked (vakra). Each time we feel we are getting near to the truth, we get lost and then we have to turn back and change route. The human spirit cannot directly attain to divine reality and, in order to reach it, must follow a tortuous path, along subterranean, unexpected and mysterious ways.
