Ruzbihan Baqli – The Unveiling of Secrets – The Diary of a Sufi Master [translated by Carl Ernst]
109. The Orchard
It happened that I bought an orchard near Pasa after the death of one of my wives, and I thought, "How can I seek a livelihood through the orchard after her death?"
I heard the crier of the hidden say, "[The inhabitants of paradise are] happier in their resting place" [Qur'an 25:24].1 thought about the verse and realized that the statement was the saying of the Most High, "Depart" from the garden, as al-Malik [the angel in charge of hell] said, "Depart" from the fire.
Anything but God most high is annihilated in less than an eye blink.
The Truth remains unveiled in the beauty of oneness and the power of endlessness. He said, "Everything is perishing but his face" [Qur'an 28:88].
That is the station of singleness and annihilation. I remained astonished and was annihilated, and I do not know where I was.
