A description of the experience
A Woman in the Polar night – Christiane Ritter
I feel ashamed of being too cowardly on the land, where these others struggle throughout their lives in darkness and storm. Summoning all my energy, I force myself to go out of doors. There is no movement in the land, lying dead still in the dreaming cobalt blue of the bright night. A pale yellow light circles the earth. I can see the reflection of the sun as it wanders across the Atlantic, across America, and across the Pacific Ocean.
This is the tenth day of my being alone. Last night I had a fearful dream. Although no one has ever told me about it, I now know how powerful is the attraction of the water flowing under the ice. I saw the green water under the ice and felt physically its power to entice.
