Sometimes, for a variety of reasons, the process speeds up.  …  We might go on a week long yoga or Tai Chi [Qigong] course which intensifies our practise…… what becomes clear is that it is too much for us to cope with.  Things start to get out of hand; …….

Physically, we tip over into a spiritual emergency and we can feel a whole range of unusual pains and sensations.  Some get unexplained spasms and jerkings.  Very commonly people have feelings of vibration in their body.  Frequently it is difficult or impossible to sleep, sometimes for weeks on end.  You might have digestive problems too.  Many go to the doctor, who cannot find any obvious physical cause.....

At one point I ended up in a wheelchair for several days, because what I was going through was so extreme……… I had developed a spiritual faith and practise, mainly through my daily meditation practise.  I had been on retreat a number of times and been on various courses and workshops.....

I felt very reassured to find out that a lot of people experience electrical equipment going haywire; the hi-fi system playing up for no apparent reason, electric lights going off and back on.  I reached the point where it no longer surprised me at all if the bank card machine in shops would not work for me.
