Type of Spiritual Experience
Background
Gilles Deleuze in his essay Coldness and Cruelty argued that there is a form of masochism based on the desire brought on from the delay of gratification. In effect, if the other party says ‘no’ or increases the time between acts of love, a masochist derives a form of pleasure from it and delayed gratification can be an enormously powerful sexual stimulant. At its most extreme, however, an infinite delay or total removal of love can lead to obsession and sickness/mental illness.
A description of the experience
It has been
41 days
6 hours
7 minutes
and 20 seconds
precisely
Since I last made love to you
And the desire in me
Is burning
A flame so hot it is consuming me
A furnace.
I want you
You have become my obsession
You fuel the fire with soft words on the phone
With messages
Erotic messages telling me
What you want to do to me
But words and text are just kindling
Fires of desire need the fuel of touch
Of passionate kisses.
Please come to me
Or the fire of desire
Will burn itself into ashes
And you will rake through
The cold grey dust of love lost
Only your body
Placed on the embers
Will bring it back to life
Not a funeral pyre.
A sacrifice
Your body
Our love
