Korean Shamanist Ritual - Symbols and Dramas of Transformation - Daniel Kister
In the kingdom of Paekche in the year 660, a mudang suffered a similar fate when she told the king that Paekche's fortune was at its peak and now waning, whereas that of the rival kingdom of Shilla was waxing and would eventually outshine that of Paekche:
A spirit entered the palace, cried loudly, "Paekche falls, Paekche falls," and went into the ground. The king had the earth dug up; and a turtle was found with writing on its back which said, "Paekche is like the round moon and Shilla like the new moon."
The king consulted a mudang, who said, "When the moon is round, it is full; and when the moon is full, it wanes. When the moon is new, it is not full; but something that is not full gradually becomes full."
The king got angry and had the mudang killed. (Kim B. 1983:II.87)
