A description of the experience

Recovering the Ancient Magic – Max Freedom Long

My fourth " dream " came years later in Hawaii. I was awake and seated in meditation on a straw mat. I had been pondering many occult problems for some minutes and my mind had wearily become blank. Suddenly the thrill of the remembered experience of my childhood was mine again.

All memory was lost. Max Long ceased to be, and in his stead was a living consciousness which was a rock. Upon becoming Max Long again, I was very certain that I had been a rock, but, had I been pressed for a reason for that sureness, I could only have answered that I knew beyond question because I was certain that a rock felt just that way and no other.

It had been a grand and comforting thing to become a rock. The sensation had been one of being firm and firm and firm - nothing more. From that experience I returned with the happy knowledge that it was as glorious to be a rock as to be a man - perhaps more glorious.

Everything dropped away and was replaced by a perfect firmness, a sensation of being solidness. Centuries could have passed and I should not have been irked. To be a perfect something is an end in itself regardless of time or place - regardless of anything.
