…. there was something else which the Bushman had told us. He said that he could visit places in his dreams, and he could meet people from far away in his dreams and talk to them. He could even talk to the spirits of the dead in his dreams.
All these things were not only puzzling but I had no way of understanding them and when I spoke to people about them they kindly pointed out that "that way lies madness." This made me think that there was this strange world of invisible beings and doings but that one must avoid this at all costs. I went away to school and had less opportunity to share certain thoughts with Outa Jantjes, and [his fellow countrymen].
