B J Laubscher – Where Mystery dwells
…. the world of the dead played the most prominent part in the minds of old Cape coloured folk of those farm days. To them the next world was populated as this one by a variety of different personalities with different tastes, propensities and temperaments.
There were the criminal, the mischievous, the pious and the simple kindly natural spirits.
When I said that we all go to heaven and become angels Outa Jantjes replied that he could not see Outa Willem our shepherd as an angel. Besides if we all became angels why were some of the dead folk whom he knew still roaming around their familiar places trying to do their old jobs not knowing that they have arms of wind.
