B J Laubscher – Where Mystery dwells
During 1918, I was a student in Cape Town while the "flu" epidemic was ravaging the country. I contracted it and went through a period when I felt too weak to speak or even swallow.
I was told that I had pneumonia but was not delirious. Anyway during this period I had several amazing flying dreams.
On two occasions I found that my companion was a friend who had died when we were round about thirteen or fourteen years of age. I recognized him at once in my dream just as friendly as we had been years before. We flew over mountains and broad valleys but the valleys were unlike those of the Cape-they appeared more like pictures. They were so soft and green-as if they had been laid out by hand. I remembered thinking that I was dead but he assured me that I was not; I was merely on holiday from my sick body and he was showing me the sights of another world where he was learning to make pictures with his mind-even landscapes bigger than any canvas on earth.
When I awoke after this strange dream experience I felt better but inwardly disturbed-life was presenting me with puzzles which I simply could not understand. Was it a mere dream picture of Henry or was it a question of visiting each other in spirit form, as the bone-thrower had said that he could do? All new experiences of a supernormal nature always somehow had a memory link- a mysterious association with the stories which I had heard from Outa Jantjes.
